Serving Alcoholic Beverages at Your Event

UBC Robson Square is not a licensed facility, and you are required to obtain a Special Occasion Liquor License prior to your event date if you plan to serve alcoholic beverages. We ask that you courier the License to us as it must be displayed on the bar during your event. Please also note the following:

  • A Special Occasion Liquor License only allows you to have a host bar (no cash sales) at your event.
  • In order to obtain a Special Occasion Liquor License, you must have a valid Serving it Right Licensee Certificate with “L” at the end of the certificate number. If you have a certificate without this “L”, you may upgrade it online.
  • Special Occasion Liquor Licenses may be obtained for $25 at BC Liquor Stores. You must present your Serving it Right Licensee Certificate and fill out a form with event details such as:
    • How many people will attend the event?
    • What type of alcohol will be served? (only beer and wine can be served at UBC Robson Square)
    • How many bottles of wine will be consumed? (there are approximately five glasses of wine per bottle)
    • How many cans of beer will be consumed? (typically, you can estimate that half of guests will drink beer)
    • Cost of the beer and wine? (since cash sales of alcohol cannot be sold at the event, this information is not pertinent)
